Sweet Flag root (acorus americanus), aka Rat Root, known in Anishinaabemowin as Wiikkaii, is a traditional treatment for cold and flu symptoms – as a preventative or to lessens the symptoms. It has also been used to treat gastrointestinal issues, anxiety/PTSD, headache, and even hangovers!
The root may be eaten raw, or brewed into a tea.
